The launch of Nexium, a heartburn medicine that treats a type of acid-related chest pain, will come as a major blow to AstraZeneca's recent decline in sales of the drug.
Nexium, which will be launched in the United States in 2025, will also be one of the drugs on the market. AstraZeneca has been facing a number of generic competition challenges in recent years as it sells its own generic versions of the drug.
Sales of the generic versions of Nexium, which are not yet fully generic, have been on the rise in the US, with an estimated 2.5 billion people taking the medicine, according to IMS Health.
“The generic version of Nexium has been around since 2014, but AstraZeneca has been struggling to compete,” said Dr. Steven Nissen, an associate professor of medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Galveston, who led the company’s research.
Nexium’s patent is valid until 2034. It is the first non-hormonal pill to patent a generic version of Nexium, making it the first generic to do so.
Nexium is the most commonly prescribed heartburn medication in the US, followed closely by other brand names. In Europe, the drug is available in several brand names — including Prilosec and Teva — and in Australia and New Zealand.
AstraZeneca’s biggest selling competitor is Eli Lilly’s Nexium. Sales of the drug in the US have plummeted since 2012, after generic competition has caused the company to lose sales of the older, older, cheaper drug.
Nexium, a newer generation of acid-reducing drugs, is not yet as widely available as the older, cheaper generic version, but it is expected to launch soon in the US and other countries.
“As we continue to grow our market, we’re facing some generic challenges. We’re seeing generic competition from other products in the market,” said Nissen.
Some generic drugmakers are also facing competition from drug makers like Merck, which is now the third largest drug maker in the US.
Merck recently launched a new version of a heartburn medicine called Prevacid, which was the first non-hormonal medication to be approved for use in the US and is expected to be available in the US in the year to March.
Nexium, which was originally developed by AstraZeneca in the UK, is now the world’s top-selling drug and is the market leader in the US.
The drug was developed by AstraZeneca and is called Nexium.
“It’s a very exciting development, and the next year we’ll be launching the new version of Nexium,” Nissen said.
AstraZeneca is still facing generic competition from Merck, which is now the third largest drug maker in the US.
The company that makes the drug is still facing generic competition from Merck, which is now the third largest drug maker in the US.
Nexium is not yet as widely available as the older, cheaper generic version, but it is expected to launch soon in the US and other countries.
“As we continue to grow our market, we’re facing some generic challenges, and we are well-positioned to face some generic challenges in the future,” Nissen said.
“It’s very important that we continue to invest in new medicines to improve quality of life for patients.”
AstraZeneca’s strategy to focus on new medicines and the launch of cheaper generic alternatives to Nexium, including an over-the-counter version of Nexium, is the company’s biggest challenge. It also faces competition from generic drug makers like Novartis and Novo Nordisk.
Novartis, which was previously known as GlaxoSmithKline, has a new patent on the drug that will expire in 2013. The drug is expected to be sold in the US in 2015 and 2016.
AstraZeneca has had a number of problems in recent years with its recent launch of generic Nexium.
The company is facing generic competition from the likes of Merck and Pfizer in the US and Europe. The company also faces competition from the generic version of AstraZeneca’s blockbuster heartburn drug Prevacid.
